Welcome to our new group of Campaign Associates!

While most students are starting school today, 40 of the Lower Mainland’s brightest leaders are one step ahead of the curve. They have just graduated from United Way’s Campaign Associate training. Every year, local companies, organizations and unions generously sponsor or loan individuals to help United Way raise millions of dollars to help those most in need. These individuals are called Campaign Associates. Associates help raise funds to support programs and initiatives across the Lower Mainland that help children, families and seniors, while gaining valuable skills and experience. Key to the program, is a six-day intensive training program that took place last week at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) Burnaby Campus. BCIT is a long-time supporter of the program and generously provides the training space required. The program covers fundraising essentials such as collaboration and negotiation skills, campaign management, and public speaking. Participants also receive 20 hours of one-on-one coaching. When they leave, not only do they take $15,000 worth of training back to their workplaces, now those skills are worth academic credit at BCIT. Completion of the Campaign Associate program provides nine credits towards an Associate Certificate of Fundraising Management or three credits towards an Associate Certificate of Non-profit Management or an Associate Certificate in Event Planning. Most Associate Certificate programs require 21 credits in total. “This program exemplifies BCIT’s ongoing commitment to providing accessible and innovative pathways to learning,” said Kathy Kinloch, BCIT President. “We are proud to partner with United Way in offering community-minded individuals with the opportunity to acquire a BCIT credential.” “United Way’s Campaign Associate Program is an excellent professional development opportunity and we are thrilled to see it recognized for academic credit at BCIT,” said Michael McKnight, President & CEO, United Way British Columbia. “Campaign Associates return to their careers empowered with new skills and a better understanding of social service options available to help people.” A big welcome to all of this year’s Campaign Associates!
