Nicola Hill, the new Director of United Way British Columbia’s Labour Participation Department

Nicola (Nikki) Hill has been hired as the new Director of United Way British Columbia’s Labour Participation Department. The role works within the United Way and Labour movement to channel their collective energies toward a common goal to address community issues and needs, and helps ensure that there is a broad range of accessible, universal and high quality social services. Nikki has a long history in the labour and social justice movement having served in a variety of positions and committee roles within union locals and central labour bodies for over 25 years. She comes from a background in campaign management having spent 10 years working in BC politics, including a number of years working closely with labour partners in a senior management role with the BC NDP as Director of Organization. Immediately prior to joining United Way, Nikki was Executive Director for the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society BC Chapter. Her experience within non-profits in both leadership and volunteer roles has helped her develop an extensive network throughout the social change community. In addition to extensive training experience within the labour movement, Nikki also holds certifications in non-profit management and fundraising. Nikki is committed to build the Labour and United Way partnership to engage and support workers and working families in our communities. Nikki’s focus on building the strategic direction and partnerships has been evident in her two years with United Way British Columbia where she has taken leadership roles in important workplace campaigns including the Waterfront United Initiative. Nikki takes over the reins from Mervyn Van Steinburg, former Director of the Canadian Labour Congress Participation Department, who retired earlier this summer. Congratulations Nikki!
