United Way’s 2014 Campaign Associates, generously sponsored by unions and corporations and duly celebrated at a special luncheon last week.

Thanks to 38 enthusiastic individuals and the generous unions and companies that sponsored them, United Way received invaluable fundraising support for its 2014 workplace campaign. These individuals, called Campaign Associates, help United Way make incredible things happen for people living in the Lower Mainland. This year, nine Campaign Associates were sponsored by unions. Other sponsoring organizations included educational institutions; municipal, provincial and federal government agencies; and retailers. Campaign Associates make a big impact. Together, they are an invaluable volunteer workforce that helps keep United Way fundraising costs low. Individually, each Campaign Associate raises up to $500,000 during their time at United Way. United Way honoured these hard-working 2014 Campaign Associates and their sponsoring unions and organizations at a celebratory luncheon held at the Coast Plaza Hotel & Suites in Vancouver in December. While individuals who become Campaign Associates help United Way raise funds, they also receive $15,000 worth of training that they can take back to benefit their workplaces. Now, thanks to a new initiative between United Way and BCIT, those newly acquired skills may soon become transferable to BCIT’s Associate Certificate in Fundraising Management. Special thanks go to United Way’s supporting partners, The Province Newspaper for providing ongoing advertising space, and BCIT for supplying free training facilities for the Campaign Associates.
