What can we learn from global community leaders? What similar challenges do we face? How can we be more effective at strengthening communities? Neighbourhood Houses are “community centres on steroids” according to United Way planner Yves Trudel, who is attending the conference. In the Lower Mainland, Neighbourhood Houses are community hubs offering recreation, social supports, community kitchens, childcare and a range of other services. They are wecloming places where everyone, all ages, nationailites and abilities can attend, partcipate, belong, lead and learn through programs, services and community building. As part of our mission to support not just the individual but the families and communities that surround them, United Way funds a number of Neighbourhood Houses around the Lower Mainland.
