United Way Spirit Awards recognize acts of local love across the Lower Mainland

Your acts of local love did not go unnoticed. Indeed, in light of recent events, they’ve been more important than ever before. Your incredible generosity and support allowed us to pivot in a time of crisis. Thanks to you, we’ve been able to respond to immediate, emerging needs in our community and help our most vulnerable and isolated neighbours through these unprecedented times.

Now, as the situation seems to have stabilized and we start working towards recovery and community resilience, we’d like to take the time to look back and recognize the following organizations for their outstanding commitment to community and achievement during the 2019 United Way Campaign.

2019 United Way Community Spirit Local Love in Action Award

Our community is stronger when we work together. This award recognizes local love that mobilizes diverse stakeholders to improve the community that we call home.

Local Love in Action Award (individual) presented to: Harvey Kooner (ICBC)

After a decade of declining participation, Harvey, in his first year as Campaign Chair, wanted to find ways to put the fun back in fundraising and drive up ICBC’s participation rate. With incentives, leadership engagement and lots of fun events, Harvey’s hard work and dedication led to an increase in volunteers, an increase in donor participation, and an increase in dollars raised. Way to go Harvey!

Local Love in Action Award (organization) presented to: Coast Capital Savings Federal Credit Union

As a key supporter of the Youth Futures Education Fund, Coast Capital Savings shows their local love by helping young people aging out of government care receive the wrap around support they need to be successful as they attend postsecondary education. Thank you Coast Capital Savings – you are what local love looks like!

Congratulations to our winners and many thanks to all of our incredible partners, donors and volunteers. We couldn’t do what we do without you!  You are local love. And your support is a true testament to your commitment to our community.

Together we can make our community stronger.
