The 43rd Annual Alexandra Festival took place at Crescent Beach at the end of May. This fun, family-friendly event saw nearly 3,000 friends, neighbours and community partners come out to Alexandra Neighbourhood House’s heritage site at Crescent Beach. Attendees enjoyed a variety of family activities, browsed the many artisans and crafters booths, and admired (and purchased!) their gifts, treasures and must-have items of every type and description. Entertainment for participants of all ages ran throughout the day on the festival’s outdoor stage. No matter what their age, background, or interests, there was something for everyone at this free family event. The festival is a big draw with the South Surrey community and every year new and returning artists, artisans and performers alike share their traditional art forms with local children, families, and seniors. The day celebrates and supports themes of diversity and inclusion – a core value of Alexandra Neighbourhood House and its programs and of United Way British Columbia. United Way’s Seymour the Sea Otter had a wonderful time attending the event, and had the chance to meet many of the event’s attendees. He even managed to sample some of the tasty food being served up on-site by local vendors! Alexandra Neighbourhood House has been serving the community of South Surrey and Crescent Beach for over 100 years. United Way has been a supporter of this community mainstay for decades and is a proud partner of the Neighbourhood House and its many programs. Community partners like Alexandra Neighbourhood House are integral to United Way British Columbia achieving its mission of creating a better future for children, families, and seniors.
