Renay – buckle up for adventure
Renay is a single mother to twins Khairah and Keyaan. She loves being able to take them to different places in their community.
“When I first had them, I knew that public transit was going to be difficult with twins, so I decided to purchase a vehicle that I can take them around with me and have them be safe,” she says.
Renay knew that she would require car seats to drive her little ones around safely, and that these would be another large expense.
She heard of The Community Child Car Seat Program through a newsletter in her housing complex.
For the past six years, United Way has partnered with BCAA on this initiative that helps keep kids safe and mobile. To date, over 9,700 child car seats have been made available to families with children age nine and under, through non-profit community agencies.
For Renay and her family, the benefits of this program are huge.
“I was having to save money to purchase new car seats and I didn’t know how I was going to go about that,” she says. “This program helped us with that.”
“It’s a difficult thing to raise children on your own, especially financially, so something like this is huge in the sense that it’s helping us help our children.
“They love being in the car, so I am very happy to have car seats to take them around safely!”
“Thank you very much United Way and BCAA. It does mean a lot to us women who don’t necessarily have the means to provide car seats for our children, simply because of how expensive those things can get.”
