National hunger awareness week is May 5-9

May 5 – 9 is Hunger Awareness Week. The event, put on by food banks across Canada, raises awareness about the issue of hunger in Canada. Food banks have been helping more than 700,000 people every month for the better part of the past 15 years. In 2013, close to 833,000 people were assisted each month by a food bank in Canada. Of those helped, 36% were children and 77,920 were turning to a food bank for the first time. United Way invests in creating healthier communities where children and seniors live, learn, work and play. Poor nutrition impacts overall well-being. United Way’s Food for All grants help ensure children and seniors have access to food as well as help families learn about nutrition. We invest nearly $350,000 to help out. You can help too by giving to United Way.
