Congratulations to CUPE 402, winner of the Labour United Award! The award is part of the Scotiabank & United Way Community Spirit Awards event that took place on February 25 in Vancouver. The Labour United Award is presented by the United Steelworks to a union and its members who exemplify commitment to community and to furthering values shared by United Way and the Labour movement. CUPE 402 represents 3,000 City of Surrey members who work at City Hall, in outside engineering, parks and recreation and childcare. The union put its commitment to building stronger communities into action through its Community Outreach Committee that connected members with more than 30,000 Surrey residents at several 2014 festivals. CUPE 402 also has a very active and engaged Union Counsellors Committee that supports members facing personal challenges. Jeannie Kilby, President of CUPE 402, played a major role in getting the employer and unions to work together toward a successful workplace. She was also on United Way’s Campaign Cabinet. The Scotiabank & United Way Community Spirit Awards is an annual recognition event that celebrates and honours the many organizations, unions and individuals that participated in United Way’s annual fundraising campaign. Way to go, CUPE 402!
