Lower Mainland Region

A day of kindness and community

On September 21, 2017, United Way British Columbia celebrated its first annual United Way Day!

The Day was proclaimed in 13 communities served by United Way: Anmore, Belcarra, Burnaby, New Westminster, City of North Vancouver, District of North Vancouver, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Richmond, Squamish, Surrey, Vancouver and Whistler.

To celebrate, we asked individuals to commit conscious acts of kindness and to show how much they love where they live. We encouraged people to hold doors, share hugs, write letters, and let rush hour cheaters merge into traffic line-ups. Leaders from across the Lower Mainland shared why they love where their communities and how the right connection can change everything.

Kindness also literally lit up our communities! BC Place stadium, Coqutilam, Port Coquitlam and Vancouver City Halls all lit up red to celebrate the day.

Check out the below video for a recap of the day’s festivities:

Thank you to everyone for helping us celebrate our strong and diverse communities this United Way Day. We’ll see you next year!
