On August 11 the view at the TELUS garden rooftop was even more spectacular as 150 dynamic young leaders gathered at the Impact Red: Rooftop Social in support of United Way British Columbia. The Rooftop Social was the inaugural event for Impact Red, a movement harnessing the vision and generosity of GenNext, or millennials, in support of United Way. The initiative was created by the United Way British Columbia’s new GenNext Cabinet and made possible by presenting sponsor TD Bank Group. Prominent guests included Dr. Paul Kershaw, UBC professor, founder of GenSqueeze, and national thought-leader on generational inequality. While acknowledging GenNext’s struggles with under-employment and unaffordability, Dr. Kershaw emphasized the need for GenNext to take action and safeguard future generations from worsening prospects, through support of organizations like United Way. And take action they did. The event raised over $28,000 in support of United Way British Columbia. Funds raised will benefit United Way’s School’s Out and Food for All programs. Guests flocked from a range of workplace communities, including TD Bank Group, BCAA, Coast Capital Savings, Connor Clark & Lunn Private Capital, HSBC, Marsh Canada Ltd., McCarthy Tetrault LLP, PH&N Investment Services and CUPE Locals 402, 454 and 728. The stylish crowd enjoyed stunning views of the city courtesy of venue donor TELUS garden, coveted raffle prizes from a suite of generous sponsors, and beverages from sponsors Steamworks Brewing Co. and Blasted Church Vineyards. United Way British Columbia thanks all the event sponsors, volunteers, our GenNext Cabinet and most importantly, our guests, for making the inaugural #ImpactRed event one to remember.
