Employees at Fraser Health Authority take care of people in their community every day through their work. And every fall they give back even more with their annual campaign to support children, families and seniors through United Way. The 2014 campaign raised over $120,000. Coordinators at over a dozen facilities volunteered to organize fun events, held bake sales and set up information tables for their co-workers to bid on prizes and hear more about the impact their donation has in the community. Central coordinator Natalie Gielens collected prizes from businesses across the region to support fundraising efforts. This generous contribution is part of the overall $26.5 million that was raised in 2014 to be invested in communities across the region to help those in need. “Fraser Heath Authority is delighted to encourage personal and professional development by supporting our staff with the opportunity to lead and participate in events that help support our partnership with the United Way. The United Way events put on by Fraser Health staff, help nurture employee engagement while supporting healthy communities,” says Natalie Gielens, 2014 Fraser Health Authority United Way Campaign Coordinator. Along with running a workplace campaign, Fraser Health and United Way British Columbia have worked in partnership in a number of ways to address the needs of young children and vulnerable populations, and have collaborated to build strong communities with work like the Dementia Friendly Community Initiative and the Regional Steering Committee on Homelessness. “Our relationship with Fraser Health is more important than ever as we continue to address growing and changing needs in communities like Surrey and the Tri-Cities,” says Jeff Calbick, Senior Director, Community Impact and Investment, United Way British Columbia. “Fraser Health staff and leadership have been instrumental in developing United Way’s Avenues of Change linking the work to health promotion and prevention.” Watch the Fraser Health Authority staff created campaign video.
