City of Surrey’s greatest strength

Surrey Councillors Bruce Hayne, Vera LeFranc, Mike Starchuk, and Dave Woods together with City Manager Vincent Lalonde and members of the City of Surrey’s United Way committee presented a cheque in the amount of $230,438.29 to United Way British Columbia at Surrey City Hall earlier this week. The amount represents total dollars raised by City of Surrey staff and management for United Way. Those funds will be used to help children, families and seniors in need in the Lower Mainland. “Our greatest strength is our people,” said Surrey Mayor Linda Hepner. “I’m very proud of City of Surrey staff represented by CUPE Local 402, management and members of council for being so generous in helping people in need through their support of United Way.” “None of the work United Way does in the community would be possible without the support of our donors,” said Michael McKnight, President & CEO, United Way British Columbia. “I’d like to thank City of Surrey employees for their generous support. We strive to make the Lower Mainland a place where everyone can access opportunity and reach their full potential. This kind of support helps makes that possible.” In 2015, United Way invested $3.2 million supporting 52 organizations and 74 programs and services in Surrey and White Rock. Last year, United Way published a comprehensive community profile that details population, economic and social data about Surrey and White Rock.
