May 24-27 is #AboriginalAwarenessWeek in Canada. United Way British Columbia recognizes the importance of culture, language, self-determination and self-government for Aboriginal peoples in BC and is working with Aboriginal communities to enhance the lives of young Aboriginal children and their families. United Way, through our partnership with the early childhood initiative Success By 6, has dedicated $1 million towards implementing an Aboriginal Strategy with the funds distributed to 20 initiatives in BC. One of those initiatives funded a Success by 6 outreach worker who has been working with Lower Lakes First Nation communities along the Sea to Sky corridor to build their capacity to help young children get the right start in life. Please join us on June 21st to learn more about the work we are doing in First Nations communities in the Sea to Sky corridor at the United Way British Columbia’s 2015/2016 Annual General Meeting. Keynote speaker Jeanne Leeson, Early Childhood Development Coordinator, Southern Stl’atl’imx Health Society will be speaking about her work and helping us celebrate National Aboriginal Day.
