This is a guest blog from Gordon Neighbourhood House. Gordon Neighbourhood House’s mission is to make the West End a better neighbourhood in which to live and grow. The community hub offers a wide range of programs and services to people living in the neighbourhood including programs for children and families, programs for seniors, and food initiatives like urban farming and community lunches. United Way British Columbia has been a major funder of Gordon Neighbourhood House for many years. Their funding supports many of our programs for seniors, children and families. The Vancouver Sun United Way Days of Caring is a program that brings United Way British Columbia’s donors together with the organizations they fund (like Gordon Neighbourhood House!) to provide meaningful volunteer opportunities. Our connection has allowed us to develop relationships with local organizations across the Lower Mainland and in our community. This program has helped donors to feel connected to the work that we and the United Way British Columbia do together with our community. A special thanks to Siân and Georgia from United Way for helping to organize these Days of Caring at Gordon Neighbourhood House! Day of Caring: Bank of Montreal A wonderful team from the Bank of Montreal came to Gordon Neighbourhood House on June 14 to help set-up and serve our community lunches and assisted our farmer Joey in the gardens. Not only were our guests full and happy with the meal, but we had a bundle of fresh greens ready to go for our next lunch!
