BMO helps even the odds

Today BMO donated $75,000 to United Way British Columbia. This corporate gift from BMO Bank of Montreal, BC & Yukon Division, represents only a portion of the overall monies raised by BMO to help even the odds for people in need in the community. Another $25,000 was donated to United Way through BMO Capital Markets, and more support will come through employee giving. BMO is a Top Contributor contributing over $225,000 to United Way each year. Employee participation rate in giving to United Way is incredibly high – 90% of BMO employees in BC Yukon help support United Way.  Josie Boon, Regional Vice-President BMO, Vancouver East & Burnaby explains that they encourage people to not only participate but to be generous. “Participation rates aren’t going to feed or help anyone – donations are,” said Josie. Josie and two of her BMO colleagues – Andrew Hung, Regional Vice-President, Vancouver Downtown and North Shore, and James Kitamura, Regional Vice-President, Vancouver West – presented the $75,000 cheque to Michael McKnight, President & CEO, United Way British Columbia, and Brenda Aynsley, Vice-President of Resource Development, United Way British Columbia. “BMO’s business is to help people achieve their goals,” said Michael McKnight, United Way. “Their solid support of United Way is a demonstration of this commitment.” BMO has supported United Ways across BC for decades both financially and through volunteer hours: Mike Bonner, Senior Vice-President, BC & Yukon, volunteers his time on the United Way British Columbia Campaign Cabinet.
