In partnership with United Way British Columbia, BCAA will provide another 1,000 new child car seats throughout the province through its Community Child Car Seat Program. The seats are to be used by kids who may otherwise not have safe transport options. Since launching in 2013, the Community Child Car Seat Program has provided a total of 4,900 car seats to support non-profit agencies, community groups and B.C. families needing a little extra help. Research indicates that a correctly installed child car or booster seat is the most effective tool to help reduce the risk of child-passenger injury or death on the road. “There is nothing more important than the protection of a child,” says Mark Donnelly, BCAA Director of Community and Corporate Events. “No parent should ever have to risk their child’s safety to get where they need to go. Thanks to our Members, and working with United Way, we are saving the lives of children across this province and that means everything to us at BCAA.” “Sometimes it’s a small thing that can really create positive change. For a family who needs a little extra help, a child car seat can break down barriers and have terrific ripple effects. United Way is dedicated to building strong communities for everyone, and programs like this help us achieve our goal,” says Michael McKnight, President & CEO of United Way British Columbia. “We’re happy to partner with BCAA on this community initiative.” Car seats are available to non-profit agencies and community groups that work with families who have children under the age of nine. Applications for the Community Child Car Seat Program are being accepted from March 2 until March 22, 2015, and car seats will be distributed to successful organizations in June.
