A silent film about bullying, verbal abuse and teen suicide has won first prize in the Youth Category at United Way’s third annual Care to Change competition.  “Bullet Mouth” was created by a group of Crofton House School high school students in Vancouver. First prize in the Adult Category went to “I Wish” a poignant piece that shows how a mother’s wish to spend more time with her adult son is ignored. Vancouver residents Frankie Law, Bruce Nip, Jimmy Sung and Jeffrey Yim submitted that video which also won the Viewer’s Choice award. Altogether 71 videos were submitted. The winners were announced at a screening and awards event. Watch the winning videos. “Each year I’m incredibly moved and encouraged by the videos we receive. People really do care about each other and want to do something about social issues facing their communities,” said Michael McKnight, President & CEO of United Way British Columbia. Congratulations to all of the winners – and thank you to all who submitted stories. Sponsors for Care to Change 2014 are The Beat 94.5, CTV British Columbia, and VISO Give with ReelYouth as contributing partner. TELUS through TELUS Optik Local supported workshops that provided guidance to aspiring videographers.
