Help us address the urgent need for food

Our friends and neighbours are in crisis due to COVID-19. In communities across our region, more and more people are at risk of hunger

With mass layoffs and underemployment, many individuals and families are struggling to make ends meet – leaving kitchen shelves bare. The agencies who serve them and that we support are reaching a critical breaking point.

  • 98% of our non-profit community partners have seen an increased demand for food
  • 92% have identified food security as a top issue
  • 72% of these agencies cannot meet current needs

Local Love Food Hubs

To combat hunger in our communities, United Way British Columbia is partnering with non-profits, schools, faith-based organizations and local residents so that everyone has access to the food they need right in their neighbourhood.

United Way Local Love Food Hubs provide groceries, food hampers, prepared meals, and other essential goods at no cost to people in the community who are facing food insecurity, during this very challenging time.

You can find a list and contact information to our currently active Local Love Food Hubs here.

The need is high

At the start of this appeal, our goal was to build 50 Local Love Food Hubs in neighbourhoods across the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley by the end of May. Three months after our campaign’s launch, we have 128 Local Love Food Hubs – an incredible achievement that wouldn’t have been possible without your generous donations!

But the need has not diminished and many of our friends and neighbours still need help. United Way British Columbia is continuing our appeal to show our neighbours their community cares.

Show your local love today. Your donations support the urgent work of food purchasing, meal preparation and delivery, and hampers.
