Announcing United Way Avenues of Change

AOC webpage photo Spring is just around the corner—and so is the implementation phase of United Way My Neighbourhood, My Future! Officially launched in April 2013, this unprecedented five year initiative has one resounding objective: to see more kids start school with all the skills they need to succeed—in the classroom and in life. As we enter the implementation phase, United Way is excited to announce that this innovative early childhood initiative will move forward with a new name: United Way Avenues of Change. The road to United Way Avenues of Change One of the qualities that sets this initiative apart is our place-based—or neighbourhood-specific—approach to creating change. It’s an approach that is deeply collaborative, involves families and residents, allows adequate time for change, and aims to strengthen an entire neighbourhood. United Way’s new name for this project emphasizes this unique approach. It also announces our intent—particularly as we launch the implementation phase—that together, with families, residents, partners, service providers, and other stakeholders, we are courageously creating Avenues of Change in Coquitlam River and Guildford West. New name, same aims The name may have changed, but United Way’s commitment and objectives remain the same. At the end of this five year journey, we want to see more kids ready to succeed when they start school. The extensive input collected from more than 2,000 parents, kids, residents, and service providers during the project’s community engagement phase— along with the valuable contributions of our many partners and expert advisors—have helped to create a unique ‘roadmap’ to achieve this goal in each neighbourhood. We’re excited about the journey ahead as we embark on this ‘brave new road.’ Find out more about United Way Avenues of Change.
