bc211, free help line, now available to residents of the Sunshine Coast

The toll-free phone number provides people with information and referral to community, social and government services.  2-1-1 service is also available to the residents of Metro Vancouver, Squamish-Lillooet and Fraser Valley Regional Districts. Primarily funded by United Way British Columbia, bc211 utilizes an extensive database to help callers find the most appropriate resources in their community. It operates 24/7, 365 days a year and is multilingual. Calls are answered by Certified Information & Referral Specialists with extensive training and social services experience.  All calls are completely confidential. “Through our partnership with the Sunshine Coast Community Resource Centre & the United Way British Columbia, we are thrilled that Sunshine Coast residents will now have immediate access to the most current information and referral on community, government and social services” said Bob Prenovost, Executive Director of bc211. “Sometimes the biggest barrier to accessing services is not knowing about them. bc211 provides a one-stop shop for people to get help on whatever issue they are facing. We’re thrilled that people who live on the Sunshine Coast are now part of the bc211 family as well being part of United Way British Columbia’s family,” stated Michael McKnight, President & CEO, United Way British Columbia. United Way British Columbia expanded its service area to include the Sunshine Coast in 2013. bc211 averages 200 calls a day. The top three reasons for calling are:
