Bullying Awareness Week is on now. The goal of the week is to raise awareness about bullying amongst students while promoting positive relationships and providing youth with real-life solutions to help them deal with bullying behaviour. In a statement, B.C.’s Parliamentary Secretary for Student Support and Parent Engagement Jane Thornthwaite talks about Bullying Awareness Week: “How can I keep my kids safe from bullying? I hear this question often from parents all over the province. In particular, parents say cyberbullying and online safety are their number one concerns because these issues didn’t exist for them when they were growing up. Bullying Awareness Week is a good reminder for us all to take some time and learn what we can do to keep our kids safe.” Tips, ideas and links are listed here: www.erasebullying.ca www.reportbullyingbc.ca http://www.prevnet.ca/ http://janethornthwaitemla.bc.ca/bcltv_videos/online-safety-video/ United Way helps school-age kids become happy, heathy and strong so that they can reach their full potential and be all they can be. By investing in after-school programs, we provide safe places and activities where children feel they belong, find great role models and grow their confidence. Thanks to our donors, our School’s Out initiative funds 60 after-school programs in six different communities in the Lower Mainland.
