Seven unions and 11 maritime organizations from the regions’ working waterfront have united together to raise funds for United Way. Over the past four years, Waterfront United has raised $2.28 million to provide a safe harbour to children, families and seniors in need across the Lower Mainland.

Walter Gerlach, IAMAW – Northwest District 250, Bob Dhaliwal, Secretary treasurer at ILWU Canada and Billy Garton, General Council at Seaspan are the co-chairs of this year’s fundraising initiative. They will make sure that everything is shipshape during the campaign which runs October 23 to November 3.
Seaspan’s tugboats will be flying United Way flags and both Seaspan and Neptune terminals are flying new United Way banners to show their support. There will be town halls, barbecues, the annual “port games” at Vancouver Port Authority, and a “Seabay” auction led by Seaspan.
United Way navigates tough challenges that we face as a society and helps change people’s lives locally. Initiatives like Waterfront United and the generosity of individual and corporate donors help keep our communities afloat.
